FAIRMONT AIRPORT RECEIVES BC AIR ACCESS PROGRAM GRANT FOR TWO MAJOR PROJECTS
May 29, 2023, Fairmont Hot Springs, BC – The Columbia Valley Airport Society, who operates the Fairmont Airport (CYCZ), recently received confirmation of $64,000 in grant funding from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s BC Air Access Program (BCAAP) for two major projects.
“The BC Air Access Program’s grants are crucial to the airport’s ability to maintain safety and take on needed infrastructure upgrades,” said Pascal Van Dijk, President, Columbia Valley Airport Society. “This year’s funding will allow the Society to replace the washroom facility, which is long overdue, and complete a master plan for the future of the airport.”
The BCAAP is a cost-share program that provides funding to assist communities with improvements to their aviation infrastructure. Under the BCAAP funding the Society was granted $39,000 for the washroom facilities project and $25,000 for the air facility master plan.
The washroom facilities project is nearly complete as the 40 ft. full insulated, handicapped accessible, barrier free washroom and shower container unit has already been delivered to the airport. Final installation is expected to be completed by the end of June; the washrooms will then be available to service all users of the airport.
The air facility master plan will be undertaken this year with the help of an outside consultant to create this vital plan. The master plan will outline building the airport’s operational sustainability, increasing its economic benefits to the communities that surround it and keeping this critical public asset viable for the safety and security of the Columbia Valley. These two major projects align with the continued focus by the Society to upholding the standards preferred by frequent users of the airport such as BC Air Ambulance and BC Wildfire Service.
